It’s a word we hear increasingly in various areas of our life but have you ever thought about mindfulness when it comes to home decor? When you’re choosing the new living room wallpaper or bedroom throw, it’s easy to get carried away with colours or patterns because they’re trendy, not because they make you feel good.

As we spend a lot of time at home, it’s important that the decor you choose has a positive impact on your mood. So, here’s a few tips on how you can achieve a mindful home.

Opt for a tranquil palette

When it comes to mindfulness, it’s all about calm and tranquillity so opt for muted shades like whites, eggshells and soft pastels. They are naturally more calming that bright, bold hues and bring a sense of calmness to a space.

Choose a signature scent

Candles are a great way to make the home feel calm and cosy, but it’s easy to get carried away! By the time you’ve lit a pumpkin spice in the hallway, a calming lavender on the landing and a lime and basil in the living room, you’re left with an overpowering clash of scents.

Instead, find a scent that is you. A scent that makes you feel calm, relaxed and at home. Then when you light multiple candles, your house will be flooded with the same, cohesive scent.

Embrace plants

Yes, they can be ‘just something else to look after’ but real plants have far more benefits that their fake counterparts. From cleansing and purifying the air to making a space visually more tranquil, plants enhance the mindfulness of any space. Just be sure to spend a bit of time understanding how to care for each plant and keeping them alive and well will be a walk in the park!

Natural light

Big airy spaces are complemented by natural light so draw back the curtains, open the blinds and keep the light flowing. Opt for light blinds or curtains that don’t darken a space with anything that blocks sunlight flooding the space.

Ditch the clutter

We all have things we like to keep hold of and they can add up. Keeping things minimal is the best way to create a mindful space. Be selective about the ornaments, prints and general accessories that you introduce to a space and it will help keep your home calm.
