In the depths of winter, there’s nothing like a post-Christmas, new year deep clean! Why wait for spring to dust off the cobwebs and brighten the house? With the gloomy weather, clutter and mess can make life seem that much more hectic. So allocate some time to really clear things out and give your home that freshen up it deserves! To help, here’s some trending hacks direct from TikTok that’ll save some time. 

It’s all in the smell

To freshen up fabric on your sofa, curtains or bed, this hack from TikTok cleaning queen @vanesamaro91 works a treat! Simply pour 1/2 cup of water, 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol, and fabric softener (as much as you like depending on how strong you like the scent to be). Then take a spray bottle and simply mist the mixture over your furniture. The beauty of this trick is you can choose your favorite fabric softener scent to use throughout your home. 

Freshen up those rugs and carpets

After time carpets can develop a musty smell no matter how much you hoover them! @ohitsjustpeachy simply fills a mason jar with baking soda and adds around 20 drops of essential oil and shakes to combine. Then sprinkles over the carpet, leaves for 10 minutes and hoovers it up. This leaves a beautifully fresh smell – out with the must, in with the fresh!

Stop with the single use wipes 

Whilst they can be super convenient, single use disinfectant wipes are awful for the environment so @carolina.mccauley makes her own. It’s quick, easy and cheap in the long run too! Simply pour two cups of water, a few drops of your favourite essential oil, 1 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol into a sealable jar. Then submerger some washcloths into the mixture and bob’s your uncle!

Dryer sheets for the dusting win 

You know those really hard to reach bits of stubborn dust that just don’t want to budge? Like in the grooves of the toilet seat or around the base of the bath? Dryer sheets are the perfect solution. They mop up those annoying dust heaps like nobody’s business so you can clean and bleach those tricky areas. 

Clean while you shower 

Yes, you heard us right! If you’re anything like us, cleaning the shower is right down at the bottom of the list when it comes to chores we actually enjoy! It’s a faff, you get wet (no matter what angle you clean from) and reaching the top parts of the glass can be super tricky. However, @jessmapes has the answer! Simply fill up one of those hand held sponges with the attached soap dispenser, add some dish soap and scrub away! Now that is efficiency!
